Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As an Apprentice Relationship Manager at NatWest, I support Senior Relationship Managers with assisting businesses in the commercial mid-market sector with turnovers between £2 million and £50 million. I am currently acting as a full time assistant relationship manager, and the responsibility to make sure the customer experience aligns with NatWest's values comes with that.
My main responsibility in my role is being the first point of contact for customers to get in touch with me to discuss any queries they have regarding their everyday banking. On top of that, I will also proactively contact clients and go out on meetings, especially to present a Fraud and Operational Service Review. My work is primarily office-based and I work alongside colleagues in my department who also focus on commercial clients rather than private which is great help when I need immediate assistance from someone who has more experience than me
A typical week sees me speaking with clients about their banks accounts/ facilities, preparing for customer meetings, and assisting relationship managers with any needs that they have.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my program as it is something I have always wanted to do. I enjoy the problem solving that comes with the daily challenges as part of the role. No two days are ever the same, and I have already learn so much, and will continue to keep learning.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have greatly improved my financial services knowledge and the details that go behind different financial facilities. I feel like I can now confidently speak to customers about their banking facilities and inform them details about each one and what it does. I can explain how they work and how they will benefit the customers business

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
We have specific deadlines for dates that work needs to be handed in etc... and we have also been given the exact times + dates that our webinars will take place. What I find most useful is having my coach who will be able to guide me if I have any questions about the apprentiship, and give me great advice on how to go about certain things within it.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have a someone who is a well established Assistant Relationship Manager who sits with me daily and is always there to help in-case I am ever stuck on a certain role. He will work through it with me to make sure I thoroughly understand it before moving onto the next task.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
As previously mentioned , I have a coach who will always be there if I have any questions or queries about the apprentiship work. I can drop her an email and she will either answer it or we can arrange a short zoom call if it is a particularly challenging scenario to make sure I understand what I am doing
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I would say the actual content of what I am learning does not help me directly in my job role, but having the qualification at the end will give me more credibility and proof that I know what I am talking about when speaking with customers. While I don't feel like it directly helps, I think overall it is still worth it
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I like to get involved in as many extra curricular activities as possible. I have been to several networking events based in different offices which I found very useful to speak to new people and learn more about their areas of the bank. In the summer, there is a lot of different events to take place in, just not as many in the winter

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NatWest Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I feel like NatWest really care about things like progression and well- being and that is nice to see as an employee. There a lots of different channels you can contact for help or assistance, and they actually encourage you to take time to go and explore different areas of the bank to get a good understanding of different roles
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest Group?
I would say to really study for the interview. Learn a lot about the role and NatWest as a company. Show you're eager and ready to learn. Make sure you're applying for a role that you will enjoy, however, at the end of the apprentiship you can move into a different area of the bank that you might prefer. You can also spend time within the apprentiship time having a look at these different roles and exploring options you may enjoy
