Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My day to day role involves the preparation of financial statements for limited companies and sole traders. I also prepare quarterly VAT returns and complete iXBRL tagging to make financial data understandable for both computers and people.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship programme because it perfectly balances studying and working. Each day is different and the on-the-job learning provides unique opportunities that I would not get in a classroom. I am also fortunate to have a very supportive team.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

During my apprenticeship, I have significantly improved my communication skills and enjoyed networking with clients and colleagues across the UK. I have also quickly developed strong technical accounting skills, despite having no prior knowledge of accounting before joining RSM.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My apprenticeship programme is well-organised and structured by both RSM and BPP, my apprenticeship provider. We receive a wall planner detailing all upcoming training courses and exams. BPP also arrange regular calls to ensure we are progressing well and we are encouraged to reflect on our development.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I am grateful for the extensive support RSM has provided during my apprenticeship journey. Everyone is approachable and willing to help whenever needed. During onboarding, we are paired with a buddy to help us transition into working life and answer any questions. We also have an early careers training manager for exam support and queries.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My apprenticeship provider offers vital support while I study towards my qualification. Tutors regularly check our understanding of the material and tailor classes to our needs, always encouraging us to ask for help if needed. They are also approachable via email for assistance outside of class hours.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The content that I have learned through my qualification is highly relevant to my role and has significantly enhanced my work performance. The practical learning aligns with current accounting conditions and studying areas outside of my day job, such as audit and tax, has improved my understanding of accounts preparation and legislation.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Our office is very sociable, offering activities to suit everyone. We have monthly payday drinks and team breakfasts. Outside the office, there is an RSM football team and networking events with young professionals from other companies. We also organise team events throughout the year to support our charity partners.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSM?
I recommend researching RSM, our services and our values to prepare well for interviews and effectively convey Why RSM? Also, ask questions during the interview process. While the recruiters are assessing you, it is equally important to determine if RSM is the right fit for you.
