Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
In my role, I help develop and execute marketing campaigns to grow the awareness, perception, and adoption of BTEC in the education sector. On a day-to-day basis, I collaborate with the full marketing team to create effective marketing strategies. This involves creating a solid reputation amongst consumers, primarily parents and learners, and more generally for all customers such as teachers, lecturers, and employers.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoyed my apprenticeship because it allowed me to apply what I learned at university to real-life experiences. I especially liked working on Self-Managed Learning projects, where we chose a topic, typically based on a workplace problem or opportunity, and base our assignments on it. Through this, I got to work on projects that had a real impact!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
In my role, I've improved my teamwork, communication, and core marketing skills. Working closely with the marketing team has taught me how to collaborate effectively and share ideas openly. This teamwork is key to our successful multi-channel marketing campaigns.
My communication skills have also grown. I regularly coordinate with team members and external stakeholders, which has made me better at conveying ideas clearly and persuasively. Writing and proofreading copy has ensured our messaging is always clear and consistent.
I've also developed my core marketing skills, managing campaigns across various channels like print, email, social media, and events. This experience has helped me understand how to engage different audiences and boost BTEC's awareness and adoption in the education sector.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Pearson structured the programme very well, making it highly relevant by contextualising 50% of the degree to the workplace. We had regular reviews with our line managers and apprenticeship advisors and we had clear study and work patterns. I worked from Monday to Thursday and studied on Fridays, this schedule remained consistent throughout the programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I received lots of support from Pearson throughout my apprenticeship journey. Firstly, we got an extra 2 hours of study time a week. It was up to us how we used this. Personally, I preferred to save mine for when assignments became more demanding. Managers and colleagues are very patient and considerate, they understand how to adjust our workloads in busy periods. It's very much a 'your apprenticeship comes first' approach at Pearson. During EPA time, the team also offer lots of guidance on your portfolio and there are opportunities to do mock interviews.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Overall the support from the provider was okay, but it didn't match the level from support the employer. However, during EPA time, I had amazing support from my apprenticeship advisor. I just think support for the degree element needs to be improved. E.g. assignment briefs could've been clearer and the admin surrounding the course could've been better organised.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My degree provided me with an excellent foundation to excel in my role. The theory is a great starting point into the industry and the work-based projects helped me tailor this on a personal level that was specific to my role. Being able to work on real projects that deliver real impact in the workplace is what makes this programme better than a traditional degree!
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
At my work, yes. There are employee resource groups that we can join and I personally joined the working group for the Gen Z community which was a great way to network and meet new people. There are also regular activities in the London office that all employees can join.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Pearson to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Pearson because they are really supportive of young talent. The teams are friendly and easy to work with. The culture is inclusive and values all members of staff even if you are an apprentice. You also get you lots of empowerment and opportunity to develop your skillset.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson?
Applying to apprenticeships aren't easy so you've got to be resilient! Treat every stage of the process as an opportunity to learn rather than a threat. Talk about things that set you apart from other applicants and that are unique to you. You should also make sure that you show your passion for the role and the company. They know that you're not going to be an expert professional at this early stage of your career. Just show your potential, drive and willingness to learn!
