Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My work has including data analytics and engineering projects, a data modelling piece of work along with various business as usual pieces of work. I have managed several projects, including a productivity and workflow analytics tool and am currently responsible for designing a customer data model which is an MVP for the data architecture within JLR's future state enterprise data platform
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy the rotation structure within my team, exposing me to a wide range of skills and projects. The program feels somewhat challenging, although some of the university modules could be more demanding. A large portion of my team works remotely, which can make developing human connections and networking challenging at times.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed a large array of new skills on the program, including data analysis skills, several programming languages, such as python, SQL and JavaScript, data modelling techniques, along with methodologies such as agile.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The program is well structured, with issues with previous cohorts being largely fixed. Team structure changes have caused some disruption, however, this has been corrected for and workplace training programs are excellent and offer additional training to that provided at university.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Employer support is largely excellent, with a dedicated digital apprentice co-ordinator in place to support with rotation requests, etc. Apprentices can also access support through managers and cohort support leads. Additionally, workplace training programs are thorough and develop industry standard skillsets.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
JLR offers excellent support in working towards qualifications. They provide well in-excess of the mandated 20% off the job learning time and have provided the opportunity to gain additional qualifications, such as becoming a certified tableau data analyst. Additionally, I feel supported to work on university assignments even in work time if a deadline is imminent.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The DTS course at the university of Warwick certainly adds value to my role at JLR. Many of the modules are relevant and have developed my ability to perform at JLR. However, some modules feel less relevant and are poorly taught or do not incorporate industry standard technology or methods.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are a variety of clubs and societies at work. These include a toastmasters, sports societies and religious networks. These could be advertised more clearly, but they do exist.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
JLR benifits from a good and fairly relaxed company culture. People work hard but are rewarded fairly, and company provision of non- salary benefits, such as paternity and maternity leave or pension benefits is generous. However, company culture and team integration can be somewhat lacking as the team I work within is split between the UK and India.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
Don't expect a high performance, accelerated career here. JLR is not great at promoting internally and opportunities to truly excel are limited. However, for a fairly relaxed, well compensated and stable career JLR is a great opportunity. The brand prestige alone makes JLR a great company to work for and the transition to electric vehicles means this is a relatively exciting time to join JLR.
