Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I work in three teams: Compliance, Financial Crime and Risk. Within the Compliance team, I am responsible for identifying changes in the regulatory landscape. Within the Financial Crime, I am responsible for assisting with the detection and prevention of financial crime. Within the Risk team, I have supported projects to test the business continuity management.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes - right from the start, I was given a lot of responsibility to take the lead on my own work. This work was work that made a real impact in the business, and I was grateful to be given this high level of responsibility. However, I was supported throughout the placement and if I needed help, my colleagues were happy to help.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have developed a lot of skills during my placement year - in particular, my communication skills have massively improved through engaging with a range of stakeholders both verbally and in writing. Another skill that has developed is my attention to detail, this skill is crucial in order to ensure that the business is being compliant.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

My line manager constantly supported me throughout the year through our catch ups and review meetings, and proactively looked for opportunities for me to develop my skills. I also had the full support of my managers and the wider team, who were happy to answer my questions and support my learning and development.
