Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Portfolio restructuring. Moving funds from portfolio A to portfolio B. I am involved in the project management, monitoring the progress of the transition, ensuring we are on track or if there are any errors, risks, etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I believe the programme is enjoyable, as it has allowed me to expand my immediate network from both within and outside of BlackRock (such as external apprentice networks).

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I would say the main skills I had learnt were time management, confidence and communication skills. Time management in the case of managing my day and my deliverables, confidence in the ability to publicly speak on panels and forums, and communication skills in the way I conversate with those both within and outside of my team.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I believe it varies by team when mentioning structure and day to day, but the programme itself is very structured and organised. We have periodic catch-ups with our HR-apprenticeship lead as WELL as our apprenticeship coach, which extremely beneficial from a support standpoint.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We have mental health ambassadors, wellness networks and mindfulness sessions for ALL employees globally, which can be extensively useful if you are going through a tough period in your life (or if anything else is going on). You also have an immediate team to support you with day-to-day needs such as workload issues.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
As stated before, we have period catch-ups with our training provider (BPP) coach, who is always setting us goals to think about in the future and progressive personal development tasks. She is also really helpful in trying to understand the content, as she herself has experience within the financial sector.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It varies from team to team, but no matter what piece of content is being covered, it always links in with the job role. In my example, transition management, we cover every asset class and a wide array of markets which, for someone like me who had no prior experience in the financial services, is good to know the foundation about.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are numerous professional networking events that all employees can attend, ranging from panel discussions to happy hours. We also do other extra-curricular activities such as five-aside football matches.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BlackRock to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Both our principles & diversity, equity and inclusivity is echoed through each employee and each conversation that you have, whether that is with the least senior or most senior person in the room. Not only that, but you can really tell people love their jobs and coming in to work, despite it being a 9-5, people typically denote office jobs as negative, long experiences, but in the case of BlackRock it seems to be the complete opposite, and that is thanks to the people.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BlackRock?
When doing either your assessment centre, interview or even cover letter, do not be afraid to put yourself out there, do not be afraid to ask questions and do not be afraid to do your own research on the company to find out a little bit more on what we do, which will either interest you or not.
