Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My day to day would be completing PPMs like LV starters but also includes reactive work so installing new pumps fault finding in big electrical panels so takes a while but its a good way to learn how everything works. i am responsible for how the site runs. YOU gain good electrical knowledge from very experienced people which helps a lot.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I do really enjoy what i do and the people i work with are great will always help out if needed with certain bigger jobs, certain things could be improved but I'm sure its like that with any company. We could do a lot more work in house instead of getting contractors in for certain things which is slightly annoying as its usually jobs that we can all do.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many new skills and added to some which i already had, most of the electrical work is all a new skill but the mechanical work adds to what i already knew. I have learnt the basics like fitting new lights and sockets and also done more complex work like installing new dis Board and repairing panels.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
There has been a fair few issues along the way with people leaving but overall it has been okay. We had to change college which set us back sometime and also I've had three assessors which is annoying as they all come in and i have to basically wait for them to catch up with what i have been doing which isn't their fault it just delays me sometimes.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I do receive a decent amount of support from my employer, there are certain things that could be slightly better structured but overall most things i need help with they will find a way to help and they have managed to get me on a a lot of courses which is good for my job.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
They have tried to help as best as possible but not everything has been positive there have been some cases where it is difficult because of things like new teachers and new assessors so they are constantly playing catch up which makes it harder for everyone to try and complete their work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification i will get is critical to my role as without it i wouldn't be able to do my job properly and i wouldn't be properly trained to complete my day to day tasks. i also wouldn't be allowed to do it as i wouldn't be classed as competent
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
There don't seem to really be any extra activities that are offered to us. There are some but they are more aimed towards management compared to everyone else. Which is slightly annoying as there would be some good things to do and would really help with team moral, team building exercises would be a good place to start.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Thames Water to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Thames is a good place to work for but like with any job there are things that annoy you. like ordering tools there are cheaper places but because they aren't on the frame work we cant use them. Same with certain equipment or parts they are cheaper elsewhere sometimes a lot cheaper but we cant buy from them.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Thames Water?
Make sure that you properly look at the job description and role as i have heard a few jobs that don't always look as they seem. It is a really good place to work and there is a decent amount of opportunity to grow and progress your career internally.
