First Year Open Day Participant Review

As part of the virtual open day, I was able to hear from partners and associates in the firm's International Corporate Transactions and International Dispute Resolution departments, ultimately partaking in a commercial awareness workshop which involved a group presentation exercise centred around a Mergers and Acquisitions deal.

It was a valuable opportunity because I was able to witness both Gibson Dunn's collegial culture and impressive professionalism evident in their expertise. However, I would also have loved it if the Insight Day was in-person rather than virtual, and I believe incorporating a session with trainees would be beneficial as well.

Through the group presentation exercise, I was able to practice my presentation skills which I hope will be of value in future assessment centres. Moreover, I was able to hone my commercial awareness and understanding of business transactions by essentially carrying out due diligence from the standpoint of a particular shareholder.

The warmth of the firm's culture was evident from the get-go as we were welcomed by the Graduate Recruitment team. This continued as we heard from partners and associates after, all of whom reflected a sense of approachability, humour, and enthusiasm.

I really enjoyed the Insight Day as a whole, and I felt that there was a good balance between exposure to the firm's practice, emphasis on industry skills, and finally an opportunity to develop them as well.
