Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The Insight Day began with a warm welcome from the graduate recruitment team, followed by an introduction to the firm by a partner. Following these sessions, we had the chance to speak to partners and associates in both transactional and contentious practice areas of the firm - which was really an invaluable opportunity to gain insights from practicing Gibson Dunn Lawyers. The day then ended off with a great commercial awareness exercise and group presentation.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was honestly a great experience to gain an insight into Gibson Dunn. Not only did I learn really interesting things about the day-to-day life of a lawyer at the firm, but I also developed my skills and knowledge relevant to a future career in law. I would highly recommend others to apply for the Insight Day, as you get given exciting opportunities that aren't easily accessible elsewhere.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I would say I have definitely improved my communication and commercial awareness skills through the thoroughly enjoyable group presentation exercise. At the end of the exercise, we were put through an interesting Q&A session (based on the presentations), and then we were offered great feedback from an associate that helped us facilitate and prepare the aforementioned presentations.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture was genuinely friendly, positive and welcoming. Everyone, including trainees, associates, partners, and graduate recruitment were very receptive to questions and always willing to give honest, transparent, and detailed answers about their careers - which really demystified a career in commercial law, and more specifically, a career at Gibson Dunn, to me.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight, as everyone I came across was very warm and receptive, as well as accommodating of many questions. I truly believe I have walked away from the experience with a far greater understanding of what a lawyer does at an elite US firm such as Gibson Dunn.
