Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a an engineer within a testing team. Our team is responsible for:
- Running test rigs
- Support delivery of rig test inline with customer schedules
- Deliver test reports to agreed deadlines.
- Support facility commissioning / development progress.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my programme especially my time at work. I definitely prefer my time at work rather than at university studying but it is nice seeing all the other apprentices together and socialising with them at uni, something which is harder to do at work as everyone in their own departments/teams.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a vast amount since joining 6 months ago, not just knowledge but existing skills and behaviours too. I have also learned a vast amount about the working life and professionalism. Learning is encouraged and I have also been able to complete self-paced courses on things like Matlab and Simulink.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is very well structured and organized from our work place's side of things. However the organisation from our training provider (uni) hasn't been as good with admission issues and some issues with our assessments.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We receive a vast amount of support from our employer, both departmental support and wider support with the early careers team. We have mentors and apprentice "buddies" assigned to us and various catch up meetings etc. I couldn't ask for more with the support we receive.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Support from the university is good, we are able to message lectures and module leaders any questions we have and get feedback quickly. We have tripartite meetings every 3 months with our line manager and a university tutor.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Due to the degree being a broad engineering course, not all of our modules apply directly to what I do within my team on a day-to-day basis. However, all we are taught I believe will be helpful to other roles/placements I could do within engineering in the future.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are lots of early careers events and company wide events which take place but they aren't for everyone.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have been really impressed with JLR and my training provider, Warwick Uni since starting in September. I love my time at work and find JLR a really exciting and cool place to work where they care for all their employees, I was even able to meet John Barnes one day! I am proud to work for my company.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
Research the company before applying, consider what you can bring to the company / contribute with your skill set. Don't be afraid to ask questions!
