3.4/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Refining the acoustics and tactility of vehicles through issue definition and resolution, using instrumentation and data processing software.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I thoroughly enjoy the work side of the apprenticeship. The work is varied and enjoyable and my team are very supportive and invested in my learning. However the university group in charge of the apprenticeship has let the scheme down causing increased amounts of stress due to very poor communication and poor workflow scheduling. This is meant to be worked on and improved for future years.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many new NVH skills and have developed my practical skills instrumenting vehicles.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The first two years were very poorly organised by the university but work at JLR was organised well. The second year modules weren't structured very well leading to a lot of deadlines due back to back at the end of year two. However year 3 has been better in terms of course structure and deadlines. Once again this is meant to be improved for future years.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My line manager and team are happy to support me through the apprenticeship and are flexible around my availability due to study days and university weeks.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Support sessions have been arranged by WMG but they haven't been the most useful, lecturers are usually happy to help and reply promptly unless its within school holidays.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Not much of the course has been directly linked to my job role however the content has helped with working in a professional environment and providing a broad view of product engineering.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Walking and camping with my colleagues along with some work and university socials, started a monthly team evening out. Also have an annual department wide team building day.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The work and working environment at JLR is great and far outweighs any downfalls of the teaching side of the apprenticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
Interact with as many people in your team or department as you can and don't be afraid to make mistakes, its all part of the learning process.
