Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work alongside the Design team figuring out deliverables for vehicle programmes, confirming vehicle assumptions and engineering feature offers. I also deliver CAD for engineering offers and plan project timings.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy work tasks and getting into the business. Personally, I dislike the uni aspect of the programme as it is mainly online however in general the progamme is enjoyable.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a lot of new CAD skills in Catia and also have learnt Agile methodologies. I have learnt various engineering skills just from working day to day

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

There is a big team of people responsible for ensuring the programme is well organised for all apprentices as well as ensuring our wellbeing is in order and we are performing well at work. In terms or uni, we have a uni block for a week every 5 weeks or so where the entire week we are studying. This is mainly online however some weeks when we have a lab, we are in person.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

A great support team responsible for organisation, complaints and wellbeing. Also a lot of training courses to help us get up to speed. It is however a big company with many apprentices so it is not as personal from person to person.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

It is similar to a university course in terms of support on modules however there are certain modules to help with things such as academic writing.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel like as I am working I can see how some engineering modules relate directly to work however some modules just don't apply in the same way or as easily.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

JLR host a lot of Early careers events to help you socialise with other apprentices and graduates such as hiking, escape rooms and treasure hunts. There are constant sports happening such as football and badminton as well as a racing team similar to Formula Student which has social events as well. There is a lot of professional networking events not only for early careers but for the wider business. It is also possible as an apprentice to get involved in sports and societies at the University of Warwick such as American Football or Basketball.
