Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a people manager of 23 colleagues, in the Natural Resources division. It is a wide ranging role from learning and development needs to the team, trouble shooting queries, complaint handler and providing guidance on income forecasting.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I find it fascinating and the catch ups with my BPP Coach Mentor and additional learning sessions provided in addition are really enlightening.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Valuable new coaching skills, which I believe has benefitted the coachees internally and is providing a basis for a coaching culture in my team and the wider business.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The course learning sessions are mapped out from the start, you can select which of the 3 cohorts works for you, the sessions are highly interactive and over the course of the year; I have made some really great peer contacts.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer is a big advocate of Apprenticeships and I am an Apprenticeship Stakeholder for our programmes, hence my interest in broadening my knowledge with the support of my company.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Monthly formal check ins for an hour, a monthly 2 hour training session with our trainer/coach and I have my coach mentors contact details if I need them to run through any questions I have. In addition my coach mentor provides additional sessions, to learn, develop and practice.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel I am a better line manager, with better active listening skills and when chairing team calls, ensuring all colleagues feel empowered and have time to talk without disruption.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I am a member of the local Chartered Insurance Institute, so attend different training events to maintain my qualification.

Why?
The culture is positive and developing into a coaching and learning & development culture with our excellent L&D leads, the departments internally are engaged in the learning models; which in turn provides buy in. So much so, my wife now works for the same company.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
Never stop learning, whatever your vintage and/or experience and take every opportunity that works for you, there is support for you.
