Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
We are infrastructure engineers, we deliver product innovation and engineering for Databases, Storage & Backup. The team is made up 14 Infrastructure Engineers with cross functional skills at junior, mid and senior level. The HE1 Platform Lead is responsible for the delivery of product demand delivery associated with:
• Development for Databases includes but not limited to Oracle, SQL & PostgreSQL
• Development for Storage & Backup includes Block, File and Object storage and Backup and Recovery service.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
The Programme isnt very relevant to my job title unfortunately so it has been hard to provide supporting evidence for my modules, and when i go to do work on the job i am still starting from fresh as the apprenticeship isnt an exact match for my jop, however i have enjoyed the courses i have been on and the trainers are all very knowledgeable on their subjects which makes it easy to ask questions.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned a lot of new skills and developed my meta skills with every course i have taken.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The trainers all know what they're talking about and all have clear plans for their live sessions. We did have a random module thrown in last minute and expected to complete the online work / attend the live class with not much notice, but apart from that it has been well organized with no disruptions.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My manager and my team answer any questions i ask and assist in any way they can. They themselves have agreed that some questions are difficult to map to our area as we are not service support but they always try their best to help me when i ask for it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider always answers any questions i have. Sometimes via email it is hard to get a response but if you pick up the phone or organise a call in the diary you will always get a prompt response and they are happy to answer any questions at all. They have also pushed dates back for me before due to holidays which was kind.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
There is some cross over where i can potentially take a tiny bit of the module into my role to be beneficial but 90% of the service support module wont apply to my day job at all. It is good to know the procedures as we will all need to use the support desk at some point but the course hasnt been relevant to an infrastructure engineer at all.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There has been team socials for christmas etc and then apprentices have also held socials outside of this, i have only attended a few since i live over an hour away however i have enjoyed the ones i attended.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NatWest Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I already have recommended it and my friend joined a year later as an apprentice. The job opportunities here are good, aswell as fair compensation for the work. Getting an apprenticeship in the tech sector is not an easy task and there is a lot to learn but my manager seems keen to help me once my apprenticeship is over.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest Group?
Dont stress if the course isnt relevant to your work, you may need that knowledge later in your career if you change jobs. Just do your best and make your manager aware that the modules wont be benefitting your on the job learning too much.
