Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My day involves working on various projects with the civil engineering team including writing up reports and calculations about rising mains, sewers and pipe inspections.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am really enjoying my programme as I get to experience visits of pumping stations, sewage treatment works and other sites to improve my understanding of civil engineering. I also enjoy being in the office as I have support from all my team members and can learn a lot from them.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Through university and work, I have developed an understanding of the civil engineering industry. I have learnt to use CAD and systems like GIS.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The course is structured well as there is a good balance between learning new skills and applying them. I have meetings with my tutors and managers often to review my progress and discuss any challenges, which I find very helpful.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive lots of support from colleagues and managers and know who to go to if I have any issues.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I have tripartite progress reviews with my university tutor and manager so I am able to ask for support in these meetings. Lecturers are also very happy to help during the semester.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think doing my degree alongside working in the industry helps me understand concepts better and remember them.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are social activities and event days held frequently where apprentices can meet and work with apprentices from other programmes. We also have Time to give days.
