Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I set up surgery in a morning, support the dentist during treatments by aspirating and setting up getting out what they need for each treatment. I welcome the patients in to the surgery and support them during their treatment. I tidy the surgery and clean down after each patient taking dirty instruments to decon and processing them through each of the decontamination and sterilisation processes and shut down the surgery at the end of the day.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I do enjoy what I do however I have axial spondyloarthritis inflammatory arthritis of the spine and struggle with the physical side of the job therefore having a lot of time off unpaid which doesn’t help matters. I think extensions should be set for disabled people such as myself as they may need more time to do work set due to chronic pain and illness such as in my case.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Definitely learnt new skills in a much quicker time than it would take going to uni or any other methods of getting the qualification. Such as anatomy skills I thought I had forgotten.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I feel like the assessors get too many students assigned to them and whereas some people need more support and others may not and the ones who need more support are getting the same amount of time in support sessions as other people. Other than that it is a good course and I have learnt a lot in a short amount of time however I feel as though deadlines are a bit harsh especially for people with disabilities.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer has been really good to me allowing me time off during flare ups of pain and being there whenever I need a good cry or feel as though I’m not good enough. As you can imagine with my condition it can be hard at times so I am lucky to have the support I have.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
Not that I know of
