Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role supports an environmental services contract in Brixton based on an agreed strategic plan in terms of HR projects. This includes absence management, annual leave management, target operating model requirements, terms and conditions review, payroll review, performance and manager capability. I am on site 2-3 days a week and work from home the rest. I will also have to travel to other sites offices up and down the UK for meetings.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am enjoying my L7 apprenticeship as I feel I am learning a lot from it (compared to my L5 done at a local college/ university). The mix of assignments and off the job hours means that i get broad understanding and experience in HR to ensure I have the knowledge and skills to do well.

Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The beginning felt unstructured, however since then we have a good rhythm of workshops in line with assignments set. At times it can feel like a lot of work is set at once with activities, extra reading, assignments and off the job work. Because of this and a busy job, i often spend weekends doing L7 work as i simply cannot fit it in during the week.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer/ line manager. I am encouraged to spend 20% of my working week on my studies, however this is down to myself to manage my own diary.
My manager is super supportive in terms of incorporating L7 objectives with my work objectives and ensuring I have support for my work.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Crosby have been great in providing support, in particular my trainer. She works me hard but I know I am guaranteed to pass with her guiding me! The support in workshops is great and if I need anything extra, she will always support and put a call in with me imminently.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Through doing the qualification so far, i am gaining skills and knowledge but also confidence. It is expanding my experience and it definitely reflects in my work. I should hopefully feel confident in all areas by the end of my course, which should be July 2025 when i complete my assessments and end point assessment.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Why?
I have been at Serco 9 years this year. I love working here as I am always being developed and challenged which allows me to progress. I like working for a big company and Serco always ensures opportunities in an inclusive environment. I love what Serco and its people do and am proud of this.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Serco?
Be open and don't be overwhelmed by the complexity of the business as we do so many different things in different business units: Justice & Immigration, Defence, Health, Citizen Services, Transport, Europe etc! But that is what I love about it - I have worked in multiple business units, experiencing new things.
