Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My role involves supervising the housekeeping and domestics services. This includes finding shift cover, authorising annual leave, completing cleaning audits, managing absence, training of staff, and dealing with all ad-hoc jobs that occur on a day to day basis. It also involves direct communication with the customers and ensuring a high standard is met across the whole site at all times.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am really enjoying the programme, although it is early days. I am finding new opportunities to research every day and have been given the opportunity to complete my OTJ hours regularly. I have reached out to central Serco for support too, and they have been fantastic in arranging this.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I am constantly learning new skills, through online learning and external training courses. There is a huge variety of opportunities available within Serco, and they are very supportive when it comes to upskilling. I have enrolled on numerous different courses throughout my employment, including ones that are not directly relevant to my position.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I am finding it very well organised, and the Bud system is great to keep track of where I am. I am lucky in that I get to manage my own time in my current position, and that means I can organise my own day in a structure which suits me.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Serco have been incredibly supportive throughout the enrolment, and since starting the programme. I am sure this will continue as the apprenticeship goes on. I have been able to travel with their support to other offices throughout the country, and they have supplied the course materials, as well as paying for the residential, which incurs an extra cost.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I have only needed to reach out once to my training provider, but I received a response very quickly and the support I received was great. I am sure if there is anything I need help with, they will be there. Overall I am finding the experience amazing and look forwarding to completing.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I believe having the extra knowledge and skills behind me will support me in my role massively, and will give me more confidence to challenge were I maybe wouldn't have before. Overall I feel like this qualification will be massively beneficial to both me, and my employer. It will also enable me to broaden my knowledge in other areas of the business that may not have been open to me before.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Serco do often provide extra curricular activities, I know that we have an annual networking event on site, and I am aware that there are awards ceremonies which happen periodically. In the past there have been charity football matches, and other social activities like this. There are also conferences and other networking events that we are able to go to.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Serco to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I absolutely love my job, and I believe that the benefits that Serco provide, along with the support that they offer means it is an amazing company to work for. The career opportunities are fantastic, and the networking opportunities can be vast if you know where to look. Overall I think its a great place to work, and a great company to work for.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Serco?
Just be yourself. Research a little bit about Serco before going for an interview, and make sure you know and live our values the same as we do. Trust, care innovation and pride. These values are extremely important to us, and we live them every single day - as long as you do the same you will fit right in!
