Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a Team Leader in a Residential home, housing 10 gentlemen with learning difficulties. I delegate jobs to support workers and arrange who is doing personal care, who is taking residents out and overseeing activities. I help with administering medication and paperwork in the office. Ensuring that good team work is carried out on shift and the residents are supported correctly.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the classroom sessions. It's good to hear from other people in a similar professions. The work load is manageable and when I fall behind my tutor is very supportive. I do find it difficult at times accessing the dashboard due to having to use my phone which can be frustrating.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I am constantly learning new things, which is strengthening my confidence within my job role. I am learning more about policies and legislations which I never really realised how in depth these were. I knew why we gad them but didn't realise how many different ones there are in the work place.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I feel each section is set out well. Having it broken down over the months is good as it doesnt feel as overwhelming. Reviews are good, I feel these are needed to help keep me on track and are a good way to discuss any problems I might be having within the course. At the begining I found it hard doing a few virtual maths lessons as well as the general topics but luckily this didn't last long.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employers have supported me with my training however, due to staff illness and an ongoing problem with a resident we haven't been able to spend as much time on this as we would have liked. This has made a slight impact on my off the job training hours. This issue is now improving so hopefully we can get back on track.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider has been amazing. I have had a couple of issues in my personal life which has effected my learning progress but with their support they have helped me when I've struggled. Teaching me ways to overcome learning barriers and making things more manageable. I have regular reviews and meetings to help me.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
By giving me insight into things I have never really thought about before. It's shown me that no matter how much knowledge you think you may have, there is always more to learn. It's given me more confidence in the workplace and around other professionals when dealing with tricky situations.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
We do not hold many social activities out of work. We do go out for a Christmas meal but thats about it.We have team meetings every few months but this is held on the premises. We have had discussions about maybe doing a social event, however due to people's rota this is proving difficult.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Lifeways to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Great support throughout the course. The interactive classrooms are a great way to build on knowledge and talk to people in a similar profession. Listening to everyone's experience also gives me ideas on new things I could try in the work place, also what not to try! The course is broken up in months so you don't feel overwhelmed with the work load.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lifeways?
Make sure you have a good device to work on. You will need to give yourself time to complete each section, if you find an area tricky contact your coach as they are there to help you.Falling behind on a section doesn't mean you are failing we all learn at different paces. Lastly enjoy the experience!
