Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I do housekeeping which involves preparing rooms for the guests before they check in, making sure the rooms are clean and set up correctly for each guest, and make sure the room fits their needs etc a double booking or family booking.
We also take charge of splitting the linen and making sure we have enough and that it’s fit to be used.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I’m really enjoying the apprenticeship at the moment, we are given enough time and preparation to complete the tasks so it does not become stressful or something to not look forward to. The group sessions help with any catching up or questions so I never feel alone either, it’s easy to find help.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes. Through off the job training I got the chance to do a checker role, so I checked the rooms of other housekeepers to make sure they fit brand standards, it gave me a different perspective because it gave me insight into what a guest might see or what a manager would look for.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Very well, we managed to set up group session meetings months in advance, which are now automatically added to our work routas so they’re easy to manage, we don’t have to be reminded as it’s part of our routa which makes it easy for us. It’s also sorted for months in advance so we only need one conversation.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Our employer is helping us with the apprenticeship she ordered us booklets to help with off the job training which was useful, she also is allowing us to look at tools used by people in higher job roles so we can get a better understanding of different roles within our workplace.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
A lot. Our training provider offers one to one sessions if we need any extra help or if we are falling behind, she also offers the chance to join in other meetings. Then of course we have our monthly group session which I think is very productive I always come out of them feeling better about what I’m doing.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
We get more insight into WHY we do things in the workplace instead of just doing them, so it feels like we have more knowledge. This helps us perform better even if subconsciously as we know the reasons we do what we do and we want to work to a good standard.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
We are connected to a lot of charities, simply we have a tuck shop to purchase snacks and the money goes to GOSH we also have small fundraisers surrounding GOSH like teddies to purchase from reception by guests, or handmade craft items we can bring into to sell for charity money

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Whitbread plc to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It’s a very rewarding company to be a part off, we get awards for staying in the company, there are schemes to help us in life like retirement or creating bonds, Whitbread is known for caring a little more for their employees than most workplaces, we have also received bonuses
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread plc?
Well I’d say starting in one role it’s easy to progress into others so you can try all different opportunities before you settle on one you can also move to different areas to see what suits you best for example commute to work Whitbread is very spread out so it’s easy to find somewhere
