Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Corporate audit - reviewing and performing procedures on companies financial reporting to ensure that is a true and fair reflection of their performance, as well as gaining a detailed understanding of business operations in a diverse range of sectors and industries.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The Work environment is very enjoyable. We work in a dynamic environment with different teams and people, which exposes you to such a wide range of knowledge and experiences. The educational side can be difficult, but qualifying as a chartered accountant at the end is worth the hours.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Audit gives extremely valuable accounting skills and knowledge. Performing testing procedures on accounting performed by Financial managers in large and complex businesses has given me a detailed understanding of the theory and application of accounting in such a short space of time.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is very well structured. College is set out periodically in one week blocks, with extra days for study leave leading up to exams, allowing plenty of time outside of working hours to complete necessary learning and revision.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
There is a wide range of support available to every employee, whether it be for physical and mental health in and outside of work, managing money, hobbies/interests and charity work for those who want to make a wider difference in their communities through their apprenticeship
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training provider uses high quality tutors to deliver your education, as well as providing course notes and wide range of exam practice through mock tests and question banks. The tutors are always willing to give one-on-one support, responding to emails and questions in a timely manner.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
As the job is centered around accounting, studying the ACA chartered accountancy qualification is invaluable. You are able to apply almost everything you learn within auditing alone, and should you move into industry one day, you will be perfectly set up to perform and achieve your goals.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
EY has so many employees with so many different interests that there is a place for everything. Each office has a designated fun team for social activities, CSR team for charity work, and peer group networking events, where you can meet apprentices from all offices within UKI.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Its a great place to learn with a great attitude to learning, which as an apprentice is fundamental to your growth. For career aspirations, having a big four firm and an ACA qualification on your CV will unlock a lot of doors for you.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Maintain a good attitude and a willingness to learn. The qualification and the work can get tough, but with a good mindset an attitude you get through it. After your apprenticeship when you are no longer a student, these qualities will be what puts you above your competition
