Trainee Advanced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Practitioner - based in primary care outpatient clinics. Working as a first contact Practitioner specialising in musculoskeletal assessment. Appropriately managing treatment plans including onward referrals, ordering investigations such as xrays mri scans, ultrasound scans, dexa scans, blood tests, nerve conduction studies. Providing education on mainting healthy MSK system
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

So far I am enjoying the programme. There is a significant workload associated with which at times can be very demanding, particularly when my normal working days are also busy. I am enjoying working with other professionals from different disciplines and also those who work in different locations across the uk

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Learned. A lot of new skills. I normally specialise in musculoskeletal conditions. This course teaches me to assess patients who present with multi system conditions including cardiovascular, respiratory, genitourinary, abdominal, neurological and MSK conditions. Broadening clinical reasoning skills and working towards all clinical pillars of advanced Clinical practice. Also two flexible modules

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Overlapping modules is very challenging whilst also carrying out my normal clinical work. As deadlines become nearer the student needs to be extremely well organised to feel as though they are on top of things. Teaching sessions have been I formative and we'll thought out. Some of the content could be made easier to access and timetables could be amalgamated into one for ease of use
How much support do you receive from your employer?

At the moment I feel well supported by my employer. Sufficient time is provided for off the job training. without this I believe that the course would be extremely difficult to complete without a poor work life balance. Appointing an appropriate staff member to sign off technical skills and NMP is proving slightly difficult but I am confident that this will be resolved.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

At the moment I feel well supported by my university. Study skills sessions prove very useful initially when re-integrating into degree assignments, particularly at level 7. Skills coaches are at hand for any problems that may arise and are friendly and approachable. Teaching sessions are informative and enjoyable for each module so far.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I certainly think I will take a lot from this course and have already learned a lot. My future job role will not involve me assessing multiple body systems, as I intend to continue to specialise in MSK. However, knowledge of other system pathologies and masquerades is definitely going to be better after this course. As well as work on the other pillars.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is a community of ACPs that arrange regular teaching sessions and opportunities to meet and discuss, peer to peer. My immediate team also have regular socialising events throughout the year, ie going out for meals and drinks. The team morale is high and there is recruitment happening at the moment which is exciting.

Why?
I have worked at the Trust for several years and have found them supportive and have offered me opportunities to progress, such as this masters degree apprenticeship. I find the staff on the whole are friendly and helpful and the is a high team morale. I have no concerns at the moment.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
I don't have any reasons to advise against applying. It is an enjoyable workplace/trust with multiple work sites. So far I have had opportunities to progress and this will help to allow me to move into more specialised roles in the future. I am happy working here. Thanks
