I gained experience across haematology, coagulation, biochemistry, sample reception and transfusion, including sample processing, analyser QC, maintenance and result review under supervision.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The atmosphere could be challenging to navigate at times. I experienced workplace dynamics and issues that I found difficult to raise, and as a student I wasn’t always sure how to speak up or assert myself appropriately. This sometimes left me feeling isolated and affected my mental wellbeing. I would have valued clearer support and a more approachable way for students to raise concerns.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I valued the support of many biomedical scientists and the chance to explore other roles and build connections. However, the planned training wasn’t always delivered as intended, and workplace challenges sometimes left me feeling isolated and hopeless, affecting my wellbeing. Overall, my experience was mixed.
