Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Daily tasks involve coordinating with internal and occasionally external project teams, carrying out environmental assessments, reports, site visits and surveys. Responsibilities consist mainly of originator roles, carrying out assessments and analysis of data but starting to transition to a checker role, assuring quality of deliverables.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am enjoying the balance of education and experience, I get a variety of exposure to different aspects of environmental work at Mott MacDonald, which is helping me identify areas I am interested in specialising in, in future.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Skills develop: WFD, NCA, BNG and Carbon assessment, GIS skills have also been developed alongside basic python coding and more in depth data analysis techniques.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Apprenticeship is generally well structured, particularly on the employer side. There have admittedly been some teething issues on the university side, but the course is back on track following a concerted effort from the university to employ an apprentice support lead who ensures we are keeping up to date.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive great support from my employer, efforts have been made to match my work with areas covered in my university course. My manager and mentor show great interest in my apprenticeship and my development.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I receive good support from my training provider (university). They have been understanding and accommodating for all degree apprentices and are now stepping up support for us in regard to meeting KSBs and other competencies
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
University provides the background information which provides wider context to the work I do and how it fits in to the industry and wider environmental discipline.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are many opportunities, particularly with outreach and social meets out of work hours. There are a wide range of development opportunities in webinars and talks to attend during the work day.
