Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a customer service engineer. So I have to drive to hospitals sites to work on equipment such as x-ray, CT or MRI machines. These locations are all over the South of the UK, once there I meet up with other engineers to help fix or update the machines.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I’d say the first year is the most difficult as there is a lot of college work to get through. But after that getting on to site makes it a lot more enjoyable, meeting new people and getting to work on the systems.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Since starting with Siemens I have greatly increased my skills working with electrical and mechanical components on the Siemens equipment. Being able to identify issues with the machines on my own.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Since I started I have had a new apprenticeship manager come it who has organised the apprenticeship very well with meetings with all the apprentices happening twice a year, and is someone who I can go to if I have any issues.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
As previously mentioned I have an apprentice manager who is very helpful, I can also talk to any of the managers in my location for further help with any issues that I may be having.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Activate has massively gone downhill since Covid happened due to big staff turnover. But I am still feeling supported and can email anyone on the course for support or help with my assignments. So it is still easily achievable to get high grades throughout.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I have gained knowledge on circuit systems and mechanical workings whilst here. Which makes learning the systems I work on a lot easier by giving be the base to build further knowledge on.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There is an apprentice forum twice a year where all the apprentices get to meet up. This is usually on a customer site to see what other parts of the business are like. Then there is holiday gatherings with the engineers and management.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Siemens Healthineers to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Siemens is a great company to learn and grow at. There is a good supportive environment with lots of good opportunities. Such as training in Germany, where I got to meet engineers from all over the world. And all the engineers I have met so far are really great people.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens Healthineers?
Be confident during the interviews and show that you can be a good asset to the team. Make sure you are familiar with mathematics for college and be prepared to get your head down and work hard to put yourself in the best possible position going forward.
