I am involved in a large scale project working as a project lead, my main responsibility is delivering the design during the pre-construction phase & handing it over to the site team when available. I also have to complete admin tasks that help keep the project documents up to date and relevant.
A large portion of my work week is spent collaborating with the team to ensure milestones are hit as well as liaising with the client on specific matters.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the programme I am studying at University, however I don't get to use a lot of the things I study in my day job even though there are opportunities to do so.
The workplace does help me to enjoy the programme as being given the opportunity to 'hybrid' work it allows me to collaborate with the team in the office and focus work at home which for me is a good mix.
There are also a good team of experienced people and mentors within the company who help guide you through the apprenticeship and progressing in your career.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Throughout my apprenticeship I have learnt many new skills relating to the design and build process of a construction project. Working for Mott Macdonald has helped me to improve my team working skills as well as collaboration.
The course I am studying at Univerisity is very interesting, however it would be nice to be able to use more of the skills learnt here in my day to day job as I believe it would help me develop further, there is great opportunity to learn new skills on this apprenticeship however there are restrictions.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

From a work based point of view the apprenticeship programme I am studying has been very well structured and there is plenty of support available from both Mott Macdonald and the course provider to aid in successful completion of the modules I am studying.
Having a work based mentor who is involved with the academic side of your apprenticeship really helps and Mott Macdonald do this well!

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I believe that I do get a good amount of support from Mott Macdonald when it comes to my apprenticeship, the only restriction can be the perception colleagues have of myself being an apprentice & maybe not thinking I am as qualified or able as other members of staff.
Overall the support is good and working closely with a mentor/line manager works very well for me.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The support form my training provider has been both negative and positive (although positive for the most part). Some of the modules I study are delivered at a better quality than others and the level of support varies.
Overall the training provider has been able to meet my needs and taken and concerns I have had seriously and aided me to overcome any personal obstacles.
There is alot of work to do as an apprentice as well as working a day job so it can be sometimes difficult to relax , however there are things in place at the university to help relieve these pressures.

The course that I am studying is very interesting and enjoyable, however I do not get to use a lot of the things studied in my day job which is a shame as there are opportunities within the business for this to be possible.
As an individual who is interested in more technical based work rather than project management this course is a great opportunity it just is very applicable to my day job.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are plenty of extra-curricular activities available to myself and my colleagues however I do not take advantage of most of them due to the high demands of both he job and apprenticeship meaning I do not have sufficent time to take on anything else at the moment.
As I am progressing through my degree I am getting more involved with networking and attending professional webinars/seminars to aid with my chartership in the future, Mott Macdonald also do internal events multiple times a year which if I am available, I attend.

At the moment I would not recommend Mott Macdonald to a friend for my particular role as I believe there are better suited roles that match with the apprenticeship content as well as other companies who offer better benefits and incentives as you progress through the apprenticeship programme.
I would recommend them in terms of support and opportunities that are offered with the business.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
I would recommend that any individual applying to Mott Macdonald are open and honest about what they want out of the apprenticeship in the long term and ensure that what is offered meet their needs as well as the companies.
I would also recommend looking into the type of work the company offers to ensure the role you are applying for in the part of the industry you are interested in as Mott Macdonald has lots of subdivisions.
