Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role involves lots of different activities. This ranges from audit work and coaching staff to having calls with the finance team of the engagement I am working on. A normal day will consist of a catch-up call with my team in the morning and then audit work until the afternoon when we will have a catch-up call with the finance team.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy my programme. The best aspect, and the aspect I enjoy the most, is the people I work with. I have been lucky enough to work with some great managers and peers, which makes the job a lot more enjoyable. I also enjoy the financial accounting side of the job and being able to analyse companies.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt several new skills. The main skill I have learnt is:
- Data Analysis - I have had to be able to read data. For example, looking at multiple transactions and understanding how they impact the financial statements.
The main skill I have developed is:
- Communication - my communication skills have improved massively. This ids through communication with the finance team as well as my own team. I am now able to comuunintae more clearly.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme is very well organised. The programme consists of multiple skills and behaviours forms I need to fill out every quarter. This helps me assess the areas I need to improve and also the areas that are going well. The exams are also clearly laid out and there is an exam pathway to follow, this helps when planning life around work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer. This ranges from regular catch-ups with my apprenticeship coach to being flexible around my exams. On top of this, I am supported greatly in my day-to-day role through regular catch-ups with the teams I am working with, this allows me to ask any questions I need to / receive any coaching I need.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from my training provider. This ranges from the actual tuition itself to the online portal which contains dedicated study modules that I can go through if I need more help on a topic. There is also an email I regular send any of study related queries to and they always come back with a good answer.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Training to become an ACA helps me perform a lot better in my role. There are certain aspects such as the management accounting part which are not used everyday, but the financial reporting side of the qualification I do use everyday. This helps me perform better as I understand the finances of the companies we are auditing a lot more and can explain it to other people.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are lots of extra-curricular activities to get involved with at work. I have been involved with lots of football activities, such as a weekly five-a-side and inter-office matches. I have also taken part in charity runs and mud-runs. I have also been to lots of after-work socials which are always great fun.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend EY to a friend because it is a great place to work. There are lots of opportunities to develop your skills and learn new skills. Whilst also studying towards a great qualification. On top of this, the people are amazing and create a friendly and enjoyable environment to work in.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
When applying to EY I would try and use previous life experiences to demonstrate why you would suit the role you are applying for. I would also be proactive in finding areas of EY your interviewer may not know about and demonstrate you are interested in the company and how we operate. For example, our achievements regarding climate change. This will demonstrate you have done background research and are not just applying for the sake of applying.
