Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
working in adult mental health, within day hospital team. having patients who are in crisis, prevent hospital admission, or support discharge from hospital into the community. providing 4 weeks support through group work educational and low stimulus groups. often provide one -one and liaise with care coordinators.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
i really enjoy my work. its a new area and role i have never done before. Sometimes i think training on anxiety /coping/ managing different illnesses. if i had more in depth specific training on these areas i can better support the patients.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
how to approach challenging situations which can become out of hand in a professional and compassionate manner.
How to have challenging conversations with patients who are in crisis

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
working with Oxford Health NHS are very supportive with any help i need. Very understanding and supportive, couldn't have asked for better employer. However, the structure and content taught at Coventry university isnt always as good as it could be. I travel from oxford to London once a week during semester, which is expensive ( not reimburse) and sometimes the content is only taught for a couple hours and could be done online to assist with reducing costs.
during our first year we also have a long break between semester 2 and year 2 semester one, this could be reduced so we could finish the course earlier.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
alot, any assistance i need they always try to ensure it happens, or explain why it might not be possible.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
if i email teachers, it normally takes along time to hear back, and when i do its not always as helpful as it could be. The teachers often are not aware of the content they are teaching until the day before which is clear during lessons as sometimes when they are asked a question by a student they dont know the answer and dont come back with the answer at a later date.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
i think being able to apply course work to work setting would assist this more. or marks given to show how we can apply what we are learning to our current work place setting.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
no

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
the staff are always so kind and try to do their best with limited resources. I work in the NHS and can see how hard the staff work and how exhausted they are due to limited staff, and high demanding patients due to the nature of the work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
be honest and show compassion and passion towards your team and patients. Patients are always first priority, and showing you are able to think holistically and out of the box with new ideas. Being able to liaise with external providers for further support for the patient.
