Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role as a Marketing Executive involves supporting the delivery of key marketing activities to drive our customer growth and retention. Day to day I create content for campaigns, execute lead generation activities and report on their effectiveness. My role is very varied as sometimes I get to work across channels including social media, email, website etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Overall, I would say I enjoy my programme. Although working and studying can be tough, I think the apprenticeship is very rewarding. At my role, I'm treated just like any other employee, I'm given responsibility and chances to learn and develop. The atmosphere is really positive and I'm encouraged to ask questions if I'm ever unsure about anything.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Throughout the apprenticeship, I've had the opportunity to develop my skillset. Recently, I did a secondment to help me gain more evidence for my portfolio. Additionally, at Pearson the apprentices are treated just like regular employees so we can also apply for jobs internally if we would like to learn more about another business area or pursue other options. Personally, I applied for and secured a role in Marketing which is an area I'm really interested in.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I think the programme is very well organised. Each learner is given a personalised learning plan that maps out your journey for the whole apprenticeship. The apprenticeship team host regular catch-ups and closer to the time of End-Point Assessment, you also have 1-2-1s with them too.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Breaking into the professional world early can be daunting but this is really understood by the team. Apprenticeship mentors support us in all aspects of the programme and are easy to get in contact with. Line managers are available day-to-day and although they manage us in the workplace they are still keen to support us on other aspects of the apprenticeship. We also have senior leader sponsors who are relatively high up in the company. They help contribute to our development and understanding of corporate life.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The support from the training provider is good, we have quarterly reviews with a mentor from the institution however it isn't on-par with the level of support that the my employer offers. However, most of the tutors are good and they are very responsive. It's clear the uni modules are relevant to the apprenticeship standards.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The degree is highly contextualised to our roles. We get the opportunity to complete research projects where we get to work on real opportunities and problems within our companies. This really helps to put our theory into practice as opposed to just watching lectures and reading from textbooks. It also supports my industry knowledge and professional acumen.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
At Pearson, there are loads of employee resource groups that you can get involved. These include LGBTQ+, PRIME (for BAME employees), Women in Tech and many more! I've personally been active in the Gen Z community that regularly host a range of social activities and events. Through this I've made lots of professional networks and friends at work. The company also hold many professional development events. There are also socials within individuals teams all year round.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Pearson to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Pearson because they are really supportive of young talent. The teams are friendly and easy to work with. The culture is inclusive and values all members of staff even if you are an apprentice. You also get you lots of empowerment and opportunity to develop your skillset.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson?
Applying to apprenticeships aren't easy so you've got to be resilient! Treat every stage of the process as an opportunity to learn rather than a threat. Talk about things that set you apart from other applicants and that are unique to you. You should also make sure that you show your passion for the role and the company. They know that you're not going to be an expert professional at this early stage of your career. Just show your potential, drive and willingness to learn!
