Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role is involved in the strategic part of the business, regarding new tender submissions and direct awards. Typically I will be assigned a tender to research and write the quality portion of the submission, liaising with various teams to cement a solution. I then edit, proofread and confirm our submission. Following this, I organise our resources and create new content to contribute to our submissions.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I'm currently near the beginning of my programme and so far I am enjoying it. I've completed programmes similar to this before and can often desire it to transpire at a faster rate. However, as I'm able to complete this alongside my working day, it feels integrated well. The induction information was useful to prepare me to continue.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed my writing skills in line with best practice and had the opportunity to trail new writing styles, depending on the format of the submission. I have enhanced my creativity when looking for new methods to engage my audience, especially throughout longer submissions.

Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme was re-structured with new, additional modules included. Although, if we hadn't been told this, I wouldn't have been aware as the structure feels very comprehensive and I have security that we should cover all I need in time for my exam. However, it terms of organisation, there could be greater communication of what off the jobs hours counts as, specifically in the initial weeks.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My line manager has been immensely supportive of my apprenticeship. I feel confident that they want me to succeed which allows me to push myself within my programme, knowing I have their full support. They have been active in completing their initial tasks required during induction and offer flexibility when I have to focus my attention on my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Currently, as we are in the initial stages, the support we have received consists of a lot of training on the portfolio platform we will be using. This is helpful to understand the portal, however, does not necessarily offer the form of support I would prefer.
At present, I would prefer more reading resources to prepare myself.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think it will help me perform better throughout my time completing the qualification and after. The content is essential for me to learn best practice and I hope it will offer insight and a variety of working practice perspectives. The qualification is designed to provide me with the information that I require, so I am confident it will enhance my knowledge to apply to my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We have several professional networking events throughout the year that vary from internal events with the core teams to external events. These are helpful to continue maintaining best practice and evolve our understanding of the ever changing industry. There is a lot of support available for individual events or challenges, ensuring we remain up to date on eachother's extra-curricular activities.

Why?
In all honesty, and I'm sure it sounds cheesy, but they are a great company to work for. I've worked in many, various industries before and TP offers a family-feel that promotes ambition and allows room for growth. They actively encourage people to pursue their dreams whilst supporting them when they are ensure. I'm incredibly lucky to my current team. Often we forget that what makes a role can be the people - and I'm very lucky with the ones I work with.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Travis Perkins plc?
I think for those who came from outside the construction industry like I did, is not to doubt that you CAN bring a lot more to the table than you realise. They are always looking for ways to evolve and new ideas to enhance best practice. You don't necessarily need to love construction or have a history laying bricks to fit in with TP. The teams are made of a hugely diverse range of people from their backgrounds, genders and previous roles. They have the understanding that people can bring more than what meets the eye - so don't doubt that you can to.
Also, have a can-do attitude. If you do, you'll fit right in. Everyone is eager to do their best because they know the worth in it and what they can achieve. So, if you are the type of person who looks to the future and sees what they can stride towards, know that TP will support you to achieve those dreams if you are willing and raring to do the same for them.
