Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the virtual internship and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Attended a Virtual Open day which was filled with different talks and presentations throughout the day. There was an introduction talk, presentations on international disputes and international corporate transactions, a commercial awareness presentation, a trainee panel, and lastly, an interactive commercial awareness workshop.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was fascinating hearing about both the disputes side of the firm, as well as the transactional side. I also enjoyed hearing about the firm's strengths in terms of small, nimble teams as well as an environment that offers flexibility to trainees and associates, through, for example, the free market system.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I felt like my commercial awareness really developed throughout the day. Firstly, in the presentation, I learned how to apply commercial thinking to my part-time job, such as considering supply issues. Secondly, I was able to practice identifying risks across the case study, while also considering how to mitigate these. Throughout the presentation, I pushed myself out of my comfort zone when presenting to a large audience, which helped me build my confidence.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the virtual internship
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture really shone through, and I like how we were given a history on the firm's Californian roots, and I feel that this has positive repercussions throughout the firm in terms of everybody's friendly yet motivated attitude. Although the firm is at the forefront of the global legal market and providing advice to some of the most sophisticated clients, it remains close-knit, with only 100 or so lawyers in London.
