Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the virtual internship and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Gibson Dunn's virtual open day provided an exclusive insight the firm's practice areas. The day consisted of practice-focused sessions and a trainee panel. The firm also ran a 2.5-hour commercial awareness workshop, with a corporate partner and associates. This session provided a great insight into corporate matters and how the firm must address the different needs of its diverse clientele.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The open day helped put a face to Gibson Dunn. I was inspired to hear from various partners about the firm's future strategy and global integration. The open day helped me understand how the firm's values align with mine and motivated me to apply for a vacation scheme.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
The firm's practice sessions helped me understand the broad range and scale of international work offered in each practice area. The free market approach allows trainees and associates to reach out to senior lawyers for work and carve out their own careers. The trainee discussion helped me understand the firm's culture better. The commercial awareness session allowed me to work together with my group and to gain detailed feedback from senior lawyers.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
I enjoyed meeting the graduate recruitment and the lawyers during the open day. I could tell that Gibson Dunn has a friendly and open culture. I could tell that the firm was very invested in helping junior lawyers develop their careers.

To what extent did you enjoy the virtual internship?
This open day matched my expectations. It helped give me a good perspective about what it would be like to work at the firm. I would definitely join another virtual event with the firm, if available. It has also motivated me to apply to the firm.
