I'm a software engineer on a degree apprenticeship. My day to day role involves building software, monitoring and fixing live process in the production environment, and mentoring/supporting colleagues. I also complete university assignments such as programming lab tasks and exams.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I'm really enjoying my programme. I look forward to working with colleagues and fellow apprentices. I also like the content of our university course. All in all I'm very happy with my apprenticeship.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've developed many new skills including coding in Java, Python, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and C#. I've also learned how to build virtual robots to carry out repetitive tasks. Finally I've been given opportunities to develop soft skills such as interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills.

The programme is well organised and there's a lot of support. I know I can reach out for help whenever I need it.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive 22 days of study leave per year in addition to Off-The-Job to help me carry out my university assignments as part of my degree apprenticeship. It's very useful.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I received 1-to-1 professional skills coaching for the first year od my apprenticeship and subsequently 1-to-1 support ever quarter. I know I can reach out to the training providers if I need help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The training is beneficial as it lays the foundation for understanding computer science which is directly relevant to my role as a software engineer.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes. My company has a digital inclusion initiative as part of it's Corporate and Social Responsibility commitments. I help those from disadvantaged backgrounds prepare for a career in tech.

Why?
It's a great company to work for with good values and a good work culture. I enjoy working with my colleagues and I feel management are steering the company well.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
Make sure you understand the company's 7 core values and embody them in your group assessment day activities. Coming in as an apprentice, it's not what you know but how you work in a team.
