Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

During my time with kier i am a Trainee construction manager, This involves revision of RAM's, Health & Safety Documents and the CPP. Which are all great incites. My work within Kier revolves around working on packages to help deliver a project. Depending on the size and complexity this could mean working along side a well experienced collogue or being allowed to manage (with guidance), the package yourself.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The Programme is well put together, it provides clear goals and opportunity's and there is a clear path to follow. I find curtain aspects challenging however this is part of all jobs and roles and helps to build upon your experience as an apprentice. The Programme is well formatted to suit its audience.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned several new skills while being with Kier. These Skills have ranged from communication skills due to the aspect of talking with clients and Sub-contactors. To more practical based skills as such to learn how to use levels etc. These types of skills are constantly growing, with new skills being taught through our Uni block weeks every 4 months.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

As previosly said the program is well structed, our work is segmented into 4 block weeks every 4 months. This helps to provide a structure to our course. Course work is then due in 6 weeks after your Uni date providing adequate time to review and submit work. Work is then reviewed and grades are received two weeks later.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Support has been great, as i suffer from Dyslexia, the University has been extremally understand and supportive in providing extra time for assignment's and so forth. The atmosphere in the work place provides a sense of understanding. Everyone is soft spoken and kind when giving reflection on work. This helps to improve my work in a positive way.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

As previously mentioned I aqure Extra time, Additional studding hours and so forth. The Training provider also provides 24/7 support and access to there librays which can prove invaluable when looking for sources or additional information on topics. The training providiors are well trained meaning they understand any issues you might have.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The training helps me to put into practice the skills im learning in a practical setting. The knowledge given during training helps to provide confidence and understanding to a topic. This topic can then be solidified by the practical aspect presented during my role. This then helps me further my career with the company.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Kier participate in many networking activities. The Emerging talent team arrange several events for the trainees throughout the year to better connect the groups. additionally Kier do wider collaborations such as the walk in May events which hope to bring more people outside. Aswell as host friendly football games and so on.

As Kier provide a a friendly work life. Provide Great benefits and most importantly look after you. Kier is a culture where people can work to acheive there full potential. Which is an important part of anyone's career. The ability the grow and learn in a constructive way is the greatest opportunity which can be given.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
Those apply for kier need to understand the long term commitment they Hold. The understanding that Kier will look to push you to help you grow. If apply for Kier make sure you are Calm, presented and well organised. These abiltites will help to put forward to willingness to work.
