Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I repair and improve the efficiency of machines through planned and reactive maintenance. Attend a daily engineering meeting to prioritise ongoing jobs. Responsibilites include talking to suppliers to purchase components and organise onsite visits from manufacturer experts.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
5 / 10.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Developed a roster of new skills included, how to weld, machine parts using mills and lathes, hand fitting, domestic and industrial electrical skills, 18th edition electrical, automation programming, and general maintenance practices.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
There was some structure to the programme, but overall parts of the learning were rushed with some sections being missed. Organisation was a struggle with the college and on-site.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
At the beginning of the apprenticeship, I had a mentor who was trained to guide me through. halfway through my mentor had to leave and then I had little support and had to drive everything myself. No plan was made to train any more mentors.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The support provided for the apprenticeship was good and helpful. However, when it came to the End Point Assessment, I felt I was hung dry, the topics and assessments done in the EPA had not been taught or developed during the apprenticeship.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
City and Guilds is absolutely necessary, without that I would not be able to do my job as I would not have the skills required. The OAL End Point Assessment however has not added any benefit to my role and felt as more of a blocker preventing me from finishing.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There are some volunteering oppurtunities involving talks at schools on future jobs. I am not given many other options for work related activities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Nestlé to a friend?
No
Why?
Although the apprenticeship does give me the skills and qualifications for my role, the place and company itself are not the most beneficial to work at. There are better and more organised options out there.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nestlé?
Always ensure there is the correct support available. Ensure the site you work at has/is putting employees through apprenticeship mentor training programmes so that they understand what is required of you and can assist you when needed.
