Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As an apprentice at GE, I take part in an advanced apprenticeship programme in manufacturing and engineering department. I work closely with experienced mentors and be part of team and be working on real parts gaining a huge understanding of the process. This is an excellent opportunity to earn while attaining a recognised qualification.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoyed my program extensively due to the variety that comes with working in this environment. No day I ever the same and it is constantly a learning experience. I enjoy being challenged and pushing my limits also working hands on learning new skills that i can use in and out of the workplace.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Within GE you learn countless workplace and general skills that you can take around the world. Some of the news skills I have learnt consist of:

Machining
Deciphering Information
General aircraft fitting

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

In my opinion the structure of the apprenticeship is well organized and gives learners the ability to track their progress and ensures that they hit their targets needed in order to gain the qualifications needed to complete the course. reviews are often and well planned out. Rotations around the factory also give learners a good incite of the business.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Support from the employer is ample and gives learners every chance to voice their opinions on issues they may have. There is always someone available to help whatever the problem may be. The business is set up to give apprentices the best experience possible and gain a huge understanding of the workplace.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

the support from trainers is brilliant, it gives learners the ability to track their progress and ensures that they hit their targets needed in order to gain the qualifications needed to complete the course. reviews are often and well planned out. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification opens many doors whether that be in the current business or outside of it. Aircraft engineering as a whole is a huge business and can also be transferred into different roles. The training provider offers plenty of help to hit your targets to achieve your goals within GE
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Within GE the opportunities to take part in activities are endless. there are countless courses that can be attended to further your knowledge and also lots of sport activates to do outside of work (golf, 3 peaks, rugby and many more) . School volunteering is very popular and can be attended whenever possible.

The apprentice is a pay as you learn program with opportunities for a life long career at the end.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GE (General Electric)?
It is important that you hit the requirements and also want a life long career that involves working hands on with aircraft engines. This job will challenge you and can be extremely rewarding. Hitting these following requirements is the best advise I can give:
Successful candidates will have / be expecting a minimum of a grade 5 or above in English, Maths and either a Science or Technology based subject
