Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Helping teams with auditing of financial statements of clients. As a senior this includes coaching staff, and helping to build the bridge with manager staff. Performing work on accounts and helping lower team members. Setting up client calls, being a main point of contact with the client and EY, working together.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Although it is a very demanding role and job, it is very fulfilling with lots of support and opportunities to learn. I would explain the first few years of the apprenticeship to be very challenging, but once I found my feet and learnt more I enjoyed it more.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed my soft skills in terms of relationship building. It is key to have strong relationship with client, therefore this is a very important skill. As well as the obvious accounting knowledge, other aspects such as team building and time management. Lots of skills for working under pressure too.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Extremely well organised. There are teams and support personnel for each aspect of the apprenticeship. It is split for exams, work and other areas we need to focus on. The firm is organised with a clear structure and pathway of the apprenticeship and there is lots of support from managers and counsellors.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

As an apprentice, we have a counsellor who helps us with work roles and feedback and any other aspects of the job we may need support with. We also have an apprenticeship coach, who helps us with the apprentice side, who is not necessarily in our office and in our service line.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Kaplan is a great training provider. They provide lots of support, before the exam course begins, during and after. As well as that, they provide support all year round with 24/7 chat available, lots of events planned and also tutors individually reaching out to students to check in with them.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification as a chartered accountant directly relates to my job in audit. It helps me with the knowledge side of my job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is a socials team which I am part of who puts socials on every 6 weeks in the office. We try to get the office together for team building events. There are lots of religious events, sporting events, There is a football team and charity teams who set up events.

Why?
EY is a great business to work for, it offers a great qualification with lots of support and then after the qualification is done you can stay to work or you could move to a different city / country for a secondment or to different service line.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Make sure you know what you are getting yourself into, it is not an easy few years but it is so worth it. Be yourself in the interview process and make friends quickly as you will have these friends for years! A great opportunity that is well respected in other jobs.
