Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I’m an admin, I register patients on system one and deduct them when they move out the area, I also make phone calls to parents regarding consent for their child to get their teen booster vaccines. I also complete spreadsheets that we are sent from Child health such as new born blood spots.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I would say that I enjoy college and that I really like my group that I am in for college as we all work well together and I like my little team at work but I wouldn’t say I enjoy work purely as if no one from my team is in I wouldn’t say I’ve had a good day.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
I’ve developed my confidence in talking to people and my people skills. I feel like I haven’t been given the opportunity to grow to my full potential as I am still anxious about some interactions that I come across. My computer skills however have developed massively on all Microsoft apps.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
Not very well, my college is very structured and my assessor goes out of his way to help and support my needs however my organisation hasn’t been able to provide me with different experiences that I need for a customer service apprenticeship as my job is mostly admin and I have no customer interactions .
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
I do receive support by having regular one to one meetings with my line manager and also i have been having wellness meetings with both the managers for a while, which are just check ins with how I am and they offer me different kinds of support depending on what’s discussed in the meeting.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I can easily say I have received so much support from my college, he will listen to everything I say come up with solutions and always follow them up. Recently I went to the college and spent a day with him working on the things that I have found difficult to complete.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think it provides me with a lot more knowledge on how to talk and communicate with all different types of customers. I have a better understanding of policies and procedures in my workplace and also if I was to ever conflict or challenge I think I would be able to handle it very well due to my course.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
No not to my knowledge. We have got an away day booked for all of us in the summer, we also had a delayed Christmas lunch that was cancelled due to many absences where we’re given an extra hour for our break and we are all going out for food together.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think it’s a good way to get your foot in to a company which has so many different routes within, also for an apprenticeship it’s a good wage and a good way to gain and learn skills in different areas that you haven’t thought of before.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
To be confident and to read the job description. If it is an apprenticeship, make sure what you will be doing in the role adds up to the qualification that you’re working towards, also be prepared for the interview.
