Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Working in a residential children s home supporting the rubbing of the service and managing the team in line with regulatory requirements and legislation. Supporting disabled young people to achieve posting outcomes and seeing to personal and medical needs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
My tutor is very supportive and knowledgeable and the learning is a great opportunity to understand and further develop my expertise and skills in this area of residential child care.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have worked for Action for Children for over 6 years and have had progression opportunities along with ample training and continuous professional development.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I feel it is structured well and I am confident that my tutor is supportive in the organisational preparations required. It does entail motivation and organisation on my part as a learner, but this of course is expected within an apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have a specific learning need (dyslexia) however I manage this independently. The employer asks for feedback regarding my progress in my learning. My line manager is supportive and helpful as they have completed the apprenticeship themselves.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Monthly meetings, check ins and learning sessions and provided. Very in depth feedback is given from my tutor regarding my work. Additional learning due to dyslexia is offered and provided if I need further support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It is all integral to the job role and understanding the service requirements and wider responsibilities including legislation and government law. The theory and practical job responsibilities fit hand in hand and support one another.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are lots of network webinars and inclusion teams. I am not sure that they class as extra curricular but they are always well advertised. My team/service is smaller than typical.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Action for Children to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is an great place to work in my service anyway. I was TUPED over to Action for Children six years ago and feel like it has benefited the home I work in.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Action for Children?
Tip for someone applying... please apply, we are struggling with recruitment! Also some departments and teams do not communicate as well as they could and you often have to search for someone to give you a specific answer regarding policy, HR, payroll...
