Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Caring for 5 young people in residential care. Enduring they are well looked after and safe. And teaching/encouraging independence, and living skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
So far it's been a refresher from what I have already done. So keen to get to learn new things to help with my job role

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Absolutely. I've never worked in a residential setting. And already learnt a lot about it, as well as more knowledge on additional needs. And working alongside multi-agency

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very. I know I'm fully supported by my NVQ trainer/s, as well as my management team at the setting. If struggling with deadlines, which I have over the festive period with trying to get modules completed, whilst still trying to care for the young people in our home as its the school holidays. Holly was very approachable and accommodating in giving me some more time.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Not so much needed the support yet, but they do understand how I haven't had the time to get on the job training. A lot has been done on my days off, which isn't ideal. But it's getting done. Just a shame I don't get paid to do it at home.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Lots. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] keeps me up to date. She checks in on me regularly. And my reviews are kept up to date. She very encouraging
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
So far, its what I already know. But I'm certain further down the line it will help
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
No. But opportunities to take the young people out and about for them to try new things. Or encourage existing experiences

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Action for Children to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Nog just my work place that's supportive. But last year I took part in the Great North Run for Action for children, and got to meet other Action for Children team members from other areas who were too supportive. Good to hear about their work too
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Action for Children?
