Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Working directly with children in foster care. Gaining their views and feedback on care, services and working with professionals. Supporting children manage school, peer relationships and working alongside other professionals to support better outcomes, tailored to the child's needs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy projects, critical thinking and analysing cases; bringing my learning into the workplace and utilising the knowledge. It is supporting my development and understanding of the social work role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes I am learning lots of new skills. Brief description on knowledge gained, putting theory into to practice, inter-professional working, safer care plans, carer profiles and the importance of reflective learning/practice.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The learning programme is structured well with a planner and key confidence and knowledge based assessments throughout, these help me understand where my strengths are and what I need areas need improvement. My work place have been supportive and accommodating, allowing for extra time when work responsibilities are quiet.

The are very friendly and supportive. I appreciate their values and feel they strive for better opportunities and outcomes for their staff, foster carers and children, they establish good rapports and work well with other agencies and professionals.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Action for Children?
They provide plenty of training and experience and are a therapeutic company. They strive for you to be the best version of yourself. Be yourself and share goals and ambitions, you will be surprised how thye can support your aspirations.
