Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

On a day-to-day basis, I am involved with planning, testing and evaluating financial data across one/ two clients which I then communicate to my team, and to the client when necessary. I commonly perform analytical procedures and design tests to ensure that there is accuracy behind the balances published in Financial Statements.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the bigger picture of programme, as there is strong sense of accomplishment once an audit has been completed. Day-to-day, the enjoyment I experience from the work I perform varies, as with every job, with more enjoyment coming from the detailed financial analysis, communication with clients and coaching the more junior members of my team, as opposed to the high level summary and review of non-financial data.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned skills and been able to grow on existing skills more than I can imagine. My ability to communicate and manage time has greatly heightened, and with this my confidence in my ability to complete tasks that are given to me or that I choose. I have also developed my problem-solving skills in order to sufficiently and efficiently carry out my day-to-day role.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I believe that the structure of my programme is well organised, as it has proven results and has benefitted me so far. Although I have had other preferences at times surrounding the order of certain parts of the apprenticeship, I believe that is has been refined multiple times, and so works very well for a lot of people.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

There is a lot of support to be received from my firm. From my line manager to peers to dedicated teams and personnel, there are many contacts that ensure that I am supported at any time, and many resources available in the even that discussion is not the option that is preferred.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider is incredibly well equipped and dedicated to providing support to everyone on the programme at every stage. There are many contacts and there is a real emphasis on wellbeing. Each course is very well delivered by specialists who are devoted to ensuring that every student has a sound understanding of each course.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

As you progress through your qualification, the more exams that are completed greatly increases your ability to perform the role on a day-to-day basis. Not only do you gain a deeper understanding of the work that you are performing, but you are able to relate this back to your studies and it truly solidifies your knowledge, allowing you to access other areas of work that were previously too advanced or even daunting.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many societies and teams to get involved in. Although I do not participate myself, I know many people who are involved in and even run these societies, which are not limited to just work or popular sports. There are regular events and opportunities to sign up for them.

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
There is an incredible opportunity to learn in-depth about a broad range of processes and specialties. Although it is incredibly difficult at times, the end results at each stage are incredibly rewarding, whilst many great people are also to be met along the way. The opportunities to continue or depart upon qualifying are extensive and regardless of decision, there is an incredible investment made into you.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
I would encourage financial literacy and honesty. Although it is good know a lot, there is also respect to be earned when you can hold your hands up to something you do not know or if you made a mistake. I would also encourage that you read deeper into the headlines and try to gain a strong understanding of the firm, as there is much more going on than just the work of each service line. Lastly, it is important to be confident and a good communicator. Inevitably, you will gain confidence and improve your communication skills, however it is important that you have a strong foundation to build upon.
