Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Audit includes reviewing the financial statements of a range of companies. As a new joiner, you look at basic areas such as cash and trade receivables. Audit also includes working directly with clients face to face and virtually. It is a great way to enter the financial industry as a job.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The EY apprentice programme is a hard 4 year course. This includes working full time and studying towards a Level 7 qualification. Therefore, while I have enjoyed the EY experience, it is not an easy route. I have enjoyed working with my teams and building great relationships over the years.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt and developed my team work skills. In an audit you work closely with a team and therefore being able to work well with others is vital. Also this has allowed me to improve my timing skills, as having tight deadlines makes you more focused and determined on a job.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme starts slow for apprentices. This means that you do not spent too much of your time in college at the start, and instead focus on the work and team building. This allows you to develop your basic financial skills ahead of studying. After a year, you start to focus on exams more.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
EY outsources the education to external tuition providers. These providers have sufficient people who can help you with your studies as and when needed. EY also have internal specialists who are able to provide support for those that need it as well. This includes training for the audit work that we do.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
ICAEW ACA is a great qualification for the audit work that we perform. While the whole qualification does not cover what you work on the such as tax, they are still important skills to know ahead of working.
The qualification is also nationally recognised and therefore allows you to work with this after leaving.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
EY has a number of extra activities and socials that you can attend.
There are multiple peer groups available to each individual so that there is are always people you can turn to if you require support. There are social events within these groups that everyone is able to attend.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
EY is a great place to work. You can work on listed entities of the largest businesses in the world. You also are able to get a great qualification that is recognised by companies all over the UK and the world.
I have had a great time over the years.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Make sure you read up about EY.
This should include looking in detail at what EY do and the role you are applying to. This allows you to excel in the interview. Also look further if EY is a good choice for you or if you believe a different business is right.
