Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On a day to day basis, I support my team in the manufacturing and design of prototype vehicles here at JLR. We bring the ideas and designs of our design department to life and produce world class hand built models. I work with a lot of hand tools and also machinery to produce the full size prototype models.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have loved every minute of the current apprenticeship programme that I am enrolled on. I love the work that I carry out day to day as it has always been an industry that I have been keen to work in. The structure has been perfect for how I learn and I would recommend anyone who learns in a hands on way to apply.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt countless new skills here within my role ranging from hands on skills to CAD skills. The entire process is a big learning experience and never a day goes by where I do not learn something new about the job. With a very supporting team around me there is always help when needed.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Although at times the programme has seemed unorganised due to circumstances sometimes out of our control, on a whole the structure has been good and well planned. I have not had any issues with how my apprenticeship has run, even with the Covid pandemic having an impact on my experience.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive as much support from my employer as I need at any given time. My management team and college team have been nothing but supportive throughout the apprenticeship process and I look forward to working for JLR as a fully qualified employee in the future. No matter the situation, I have always had the help and support that I need.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Although there have been a lot of changes with the training provider, be that people leaving or moving roles, I have mostly had all of the support that I need. It has been frustrating at times when there is a change in personnel and it feels like I have to start from the beginning in getting to know the work based learning manager that I have been assigned to. They quickly get round to offering help where needed and not interrupting my apprenticeship progress.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
In all honesty the qualification that I will be receiving likely will not benefit me within my current role. That being said, having an apprenticeship to my name will show my current and any future employer that I am capable of committing to something and following it through to completion.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
My work offer a very impressive range of extra curricular activities for their employees to take part in. There are football teams to join among other sports, and social events are generally put on once a month, be that going for drinks with the team after work on a Friday or a meal after work.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend working for Jaguar Land Rover to a friend as I feel that the company truly cares about its employees and this is shown in the benefits that are offered to us. The pay is very good and also there is a very wide range of jobs, meaning that there is a role for everyone.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
When creating your application make sure to take your time and produce a good covering letter. Ensure that your CV is up to date and not overly complex. When attending the assessment centre, make sure to give a good first impression and be your best self as this is the only impression that your potential management will have of you until you begin the scheme.
