Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Currently, in Warwick Trident College, we are learning different topics such as chassis, electrical and health and safety. On Mondays and Tuesdays, we have these lessons. The rest of the week we spend in workshops learning practical skills. In college and school half term, we go to plant where we learn on the job.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the programme, everyone gets along and the coursework is easy to get around. It is challenging at times, however the teachers and staff are helpful and always try to get the best out of you. There is plenty of time to do coursework within college time if you take advantage of it.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have learnt a lot about cars and what goes into making them safe and better for people to drive. I have learnt a lot about the company and its history and goals for the future. How everyone in the company has a role and how everyone working together makes it all work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The structure of the programme is very good. We have term time at college, learning key details to achieve the qualification. Adequate training is provided by the staff when at plant. The spokesperson for us at the college is helpful and is always there to help with any needs.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The employer is always there for us if needed, it is easy to get in touch with them over email and we have occasional reviews with our work based learning manager. They do behavioural reviews and ensure that we are on track with our work and we are not struggling.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The training provider provides constant feedback throughout the year. On each assignment the tutor provides feedback and resubmissions to help us get the best possible mark. All of the tutors are there to help and always reply to emails and help to get us the qualification that we need to pass.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The information we get from the training provider allows us to go into the workplace and put our training into action and fit quite well into the work environment. This allows us to crack on with work straight away without needing more guidance.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
The early careers team send out monthly newsletters informing everyone of extra activities which take place after work hours. These are things such as clubs and football games. They also encourage us to meet up after work hours to further get along and encourage team building skills which we can use in the workplace.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a good large company which has a lot of history and good ideas for the future. They pay well and provide a high level of training which is well recognised. There is a lot of job security and everyone is welcomed and valued.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
Apply as early as you can as it is popular course. Do not over-stress in the interview etc, everyone is here to help and no one is trying to criticise or catch you out. Everyone is friendly and wants to help you out. If you can, speak to someone already at JLR to give you some tips.
