Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role involves implementing machine learning and AI to solve a dynamic range of problems for clients, to improve their efficiency of operation. Typical day to day activities include, programming, testing and maintaining AI systems once built, aswell as understanding/explaining how they make predictions to people who dont know AI.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, although my manager kept in contact with me regularly, he then gave me the responsibility to work out how to do things for myself.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have improved upon my programming skills by:
(i) learning how to use specific programming libraries to enable AI;
(ii) learning how to build AI models;
(iii) improved upon my communication skills; and
(iv) learnt to understand and appreciate the workings of commercial business including the business and legal requirements i.e. work winning and tendering.

I was given lots of support by my manager throughout my placement and always felt comfortable to seek guidance.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
As my placement was working from home, I cannot really comment on the atmosphere.
However, the company culture is very welcoming and encouraging of talent development and they look out for their employees. They have sufficient support networks.

If you are working remotely, seek opportunities to travel and meet face-to-face with the people you work with. Attend the weekly business updates and Q&A sessions to keep up to date with company operations. Familiarise yourself with the support networks available as they can be really beneficial for your professional development and wellbeing.
