Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role is to manage a team of staff within the care sector to provide high quality standards of care for adults with autism. I administer medication and ensure everyone is safe and the shifts are well led and that the PWS have the best quality and opportunity in life.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy learning new skills and developing my skills and knowledge. Sometimes it can be challenging to work full-time hours and fit it around my studies as no day is the same at work, therefore I do not always have time to log onto a computer and do my coursework during working hours.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt good time management, delegation skills and general knowledge from policies and procedures within the care sector. I have also learnt the difficulties that people face when they have a learning difficulty and ways in which they express themselves or communicate with staff for their needs and requirements.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The site that I use is called Aptem. It can sometimes be slow to get onto my learning plan and does not always allow me to submit the work that I have completed, making it hard to be motivated and log on to do the essential coursework in a timely manner.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is always willing to help and will sometimes re word questions for me in a way that I understand and give me examples of what I can be writing about to get me on the right path with a question. My employer also helps with my Maths and explains things well.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider changed half way through my course. The new lady is fantastic, very good at communicating via text and always responds fast when I have a question. She also marks any work that I do on the app very fast and gives constructive feedback to help me improve work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It has helped me with the policies and procedures and I have learnt a lot regarding duty of care and duty of candour. I also feel that I perform better by acting in a more professional way when dealing with problems/issues that happen within the work environment on a regular basis.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes. My work have events on a regular basis in which the staff team all come together with ideas and thoughts and we organise a fun day for the whole of site to enjoy. This includes themed tea parties, Christmas events and Easter events to bring everyone together from all homes across site.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Lifeways to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Lifeways value their staff. There are always opportunities to have your say and options are available to organise trips for PWS. Competitive rate of pay. Other staff genuinely care about the role and care/support people to a high standard. Management are very friendly and approachable across site no matter what the issue is.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lifeways?
To be open minded and enthusiastic. Not every day is fun and exciting. Sometimes it can be challenging and draining so ensure that you get a good work-home life balance to avoid burnout. Always be willing to try new things and take constructive criticism on board when it comes to ideas and opinions.
