Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a hotel receptionist , checking people in to hotel, taking bookings for breakfast and dinner, making sure guest are in the right type of room for their stay. I do room allocations . I also do co pilot , alarm testing . Daily checks. Count money in safe. Lapsed deposits and cnp checks
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
When I first started I enjoyed it but over time I found I was always waiting or chancing for help. Not really knowing what was happening. I found I just wanted to finish it as long gaps and not much support from anyone. My trainer is really good by my managers never showed any interest or gave any help

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed my English and maths skill. I have also learnt how to help other people develop their skills and help train them in housekeeping and working on reception. I learnt more about micros and how to do wastage and order food and drink. How to identify when another person needs help.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It was the second time I started it as left half way through. So found it was simple then they changed sites and everything got complicated not being able to see the aptem site all the time. Which meant I was asking my trainer questions all the time. Then having to wait for answers. Even now I'm in the last part of it I find it confusing and am worried about it
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I have had about 9 managers since I started doing it and no one has given me any real support .. all my course work has been done in my own time as to busy at work to do it. At my sign off phone call my manager was surpose to have signed paperwork but had not done it . So we had to get permission for my new DHM Scott who was not named on any of it to sign at last min to be able to continue. Only once did any manager take part in a teams meeting to give feed back
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My trainer has been very supportive when we got stuck with lack of support from my managers she always found away round it. When I almost gave up she encouraged me to keep going and never gave up on me. She has chased manages and helped me at every point
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I am more positive although when I started I was a Duty Manager but dropped down to receptionist. I feel that having the knowledge from course dose not always seem much till you have a difficult customer or problem then you suddenly remember something you learnt but didn't realise at the time
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We have a couple of facebook groups but most people use them to show whats happening at their own hotel, of to ask questions for work. But we didn't even get a Christmas party . We have a WhatsApp group for work like notifying each other what's happening

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Whitbread plc to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It offers a choice of diffrent areas to work in.If you don't feel comfortable in a position or place of work you can move as long as your manager agrees. The wages are fare and if you want to progress you can work your way up as long as your committed
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread plc?
Think hard about what type of job your looking for, make sure you know the hours your going to work as no point moaning once you are working that your hours have changed. Dont think because you have worked in a similar roll that it will be the same as often it's not. Do all the training and listen don't try to take short cuts
