Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am a receptionist within the hotel. My role consists of greeting guests when they arrive, checking them into the hotel and looking after the hotel itself. Also depending on what shifts I do, I also check them out and check how their stay was. We also work very closely with the housekeeping team and provide them with information they need to complete their shifts.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I found my programme to be very helpful within my job role. There was lots of information to go through which helped me make the links between certain topics, allowing me to see how it may effect my role in the work place. Even in my general day-to-day, there were lots of things I could make a link between and this gave me a wider understanding of the industry as a whole.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I think there were lots of skills I had prior to the apprenticeship, but completing it has definitely helped me improve on them. Adaptability and problem solving have been big developments for me though. Having to switch programmes part-way through the programme to was a big change and a lot to adapt to. The trainer was very helpful though and did provide us with everything we needed to learn the new systems.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
It was very well structured. It is all written out into months with exactly what you needed to have achieved within a certain amount of time. This made time management for projects much easier.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
As a whole, I did not receive much help from my employer during my apprenticeship. This was not due to it not being offered, they were always checking how I was getting on or on my progress, but in general I was always on top of everything so there was never really any need for their help. Which works for me as I am very independent.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider was very supportive. I think this is why I required less help from my employer. They covered all of my topics in our meetings and I had regular video calls with them for teaching and learning sessions. These were very helpful as any questions I had were answered there and then.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I do not think I would be where I am in my job without it. It has boosted my confidence behind the desk with the knowledge it has given me, as well as helping me deal with guests.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I tend to take the lead with managing the staff when staff parties are planned. This is with things such as organising who wants what to eat and making sure everyone is aware of the times things are booked for. I also plan most of our guest focused events during events such as Easter and Christmas.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Whitbread plc to a friend?
Yes
Why?
From my experience, they have always made sure you are looked after. I also think that having something like the apprenticeship available to staff is really lovely and not something everyone is willing to provide. They pay for you to complete it and it provides you with skills and knowledge you can use to progress in the company or even take on with you further.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread plc?
I would definitely recommend people join if the opportunity becomes available to do so. They care for their staff and there is always the chance to progress within the company.
