Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a retail team leader working in decor that keeps the depart managed by assessing sales and trying to improve the business by implementing new ways of sales as well as working along side my team to work the deliveries that are delivered 3 times a week. I spend time trying to promote the Valspar as they are our mixing paijt partners
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoyed being taken out of my normal job role and expanding my knowledge to not only in my own industry but to other industries where these skills are transferable. This gives me the chance to open more doors to further my career either inside B&Q or to other companies

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Recently I have learnt how to manage certain situations that require a high level of profession ism to improve the teams performance and drive sales and a better customer experience. On the back of my apprenticeship I have learnt a number of new skills around the cashing up processes and cash office duties

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The structure took some time to get used to by I knew what was expected of me during each month and what was expected towards completing each module with completing the written statements, the recorded discussions or the showing parts of the assessments. It allowed me to plan and prepare for the one to one meetings with my coach
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I was provided with a number of different styles of support from the other apprentices on my course, the management team within my own store as well as management teams across the region. B&Q also provided a mountain of information on the intranet so that I could seek out the information I was looking for from their business models
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
At the beginning my coach provided a lot of support on the structure and sign posted me to their website which had it own modules to complete and grow my knowledge. Towards the end of my course my coach was less helpful due to wanting to leave their current role but the new coach was far more helpful
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
My qualification actually helped me expand my knowledge through the experience that were required to be completed. It helped me learn process and procedures that will help me grown in a new role as a Trading manager should I wish to stay in my current employer giving me more confidence whichever path I choose
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
At my current store there aren't that many extra curricular activities aside from the charity support that B&Q do. Many of the events very much seem to be stores that are in other regions but not to say my store couldn't start something to grow the teams more

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend B&Q to a friend?
Yes
Why?
B&Q is a great place to learn no matter what level you are starting at. There will always be new and interesting experiences that you can be supported though and so many ways to develop yourself both inside the business and outside. Don't get my wrong stores do have their issues but overall as an employer they have been great over the years
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to B&Q?
My advice would be that dont take yourself too seriously in our business, things will happen and there will always be a supporting team to help you through each step of the way and help you grow through thick and thin. Just take each day as it comes, and have fun getting to know the people and the business
